The Commercial Finance Accountant is a valued member of the Finance team, contributing to the financial management of all aspects of client business for Collinson in Australia. The role has a direct reporting line to the Finance Manager, but has regular direct interaction with:

  • The other members of the Australia Finance team,
  • The Client Services Manager and their team,
  • The Country Director,
  • Regional Commercial Finance team,
  • Regional and Global management.

From a management accounting perspective, the Commercial Finance Accountant controls the actual results for revenue, cost of sales and direct staff costs by client and delivers accurate and timely analysis of results against forecasts and budgets

While focused on the relationship with the Client Services team, the position must provide objective, clear analysis to ensure prospective and current projects are reported on and managed according to their contracts and agreements.

The Commercial Finance Accountant will be requested to provide in depth analytical reporting to local, regional and global management to better communicate variances and changes to the business project and client needs on a regular basis.

The position will also require an ability to create clear, concise and adaptable excel models for new business opportunities, or potential changes to commercial terms with clients. The Commercial Finance Accountant would need to be comfortable presenting the models to Regional and Global management with thorough understanding of underlying assumptions, and the excel models will need to provide immediate impacts of assumption changes requested by management.


Responsibilities and duties

The key responsibilities of the Commercial Finance Accountant include and are not limited to:

  • All accounting information relating to Client Services Team is updated, managed and reported on a regular basis.
  • Ensuring all financial and compliance aspects relating to Client agreements are fulfilled on a monthly and yearly basis
  • Being present where required in all meetings of change or finance related matters in delivering services of Collinson to its Clients
  • Develop and report and communicate on the key aspects of the Clients activity
  • Detailed involvement on business planning for new products or new client opportunities
  • Drive the yearly Client Budgeting and quarterly forecasting process and liaise with all teams on agreeing accurate assumptions
  • Maintaining monthly work papers in accordance with Collinson Group policy and ensuring reconciliation of Client related General ledger accounts is fulfilled in a timely and accurate manner in order to prepare monthly management reports for review by the Finance Manager.
  • Being the key Finance Contact for Merchants providing services to the Collinson products and maintaining accurate reconciliations of all Merchant accounts
  • Correctly account for all cost of sales and Client jobs by working with Client services team and the Finance Manager
  • Arrange for the Authority to correctly account for Invoices and payments for and on behalf of Collinson under agreement, including all taxation matters relating there to
  • Assist in the regular discussion and planning of Intercompany costs relating to new and existing projects and services. Develop and maintain allocation models and financial reports
  • Report to Regional and Global Headquarters all aspects of analysis and reporting specific to Collinson Australia’s clients.
  • Assisting in year-end Statutory Audit processes and other necessary audit compliance related to Client accounts.
  • Adherence to the timelines and deadlines provided by Global, Regional and Australian Senior Finance Staff
  • Additional Financial administrative duties and reporting as required

Necessary Skills and requirements

The Commercial Finance Accountant will have;

  • Degree and CPA / CA qualified, with at least 5+ years Accounting experience in the application of financial accounting principles and practices
  • Competent understanding of legal agreements relating to the provision of Collinson’s services
  • Ability to develop a thorough understanding of Collinson Client agreements and a thorough analysis on performance of the business through past experience
  • Proficient MS Word, Powerpoint and near advanced Excel skills, with a high degree of proficiency utilising other Microsoft Office applications
  • Proactive, curious and problem-solving skills with a strong drive towards developing system-based outcomes
  • Working knowledge of relevant legislations and accounting standards
  • A strong attention to detail
  • Professional attitude and presentation
  • Excellent English verbal and written communication skills
  • Self-motivated and strong desire to learn with the ability to manage tight deadlines
