Great opportunity to join The Canopy. We are seeking a suitably qualified and experienced Community Capacity Building Manager to build social-wellbeing of residents under our community development program and community facility management social outcomes.

The Role
The position is responsible for fostering and maintaining engagement with residents, community organisations, and government agencies and other key stakeholders to identify, understand and collectively respond to expressed community needs and aspirations. Using these aspirations in turn as a basis for the development of community-based initiatives, strategies and partnerships.  

This will result in enhancing local access to social support services, programs, activities and events aimed to build community well-being and capacity.

Key responsibilities include, but are not limited to: -
• Engaging and consulting with residents, community groups and other key stakeholders to identify community needs, aspirations and subsequent formulation and collective delivery of coordinated actions.

• Establishment and facilitation of community projects and initiatives which target specific community aspirations as identified.

• Proactively identify and engage with relevant community organisations and community service providers to identify and act on opportunities to establish and deliver support services and programs from community facilities managed by The Canopy.

• Provide direction and support to the Coordinator of the Maryland Neighbourhood Centre and Community Facilities Coordinator.

• Contribute to the direction and support of The Canopy’s community facility management operations to ensure expectations and outcomes prescribed by The Canopy and key external stakeholders are met.  

About You - Selection Criteria

• Tertiary level qualifications in Social Welfare, Social Work, Social Science, Psychology or a similar discipline.

• Demonstrated understanding, knowledge, and extensive experience in community development, community capacity building and place making.

• A track record of persistence and innovation in previous professional experiences.

• Excellent communication, interpersonal skills including the ability to effectively interact, communicate with and collaborate with people from a wide range of cultural backgrounds and lifestyles.

• Experience in establishing networks and building positive relationships while balancing and meeting expectations with a wide variety of stakeholders such as representatives from various levels of government, local community, local businesses, and community groups. 

• Demonstrated skills, knowledge and proven results in project management in context of community development and capacity building.

• Understanding of the role community facilities play in building community well-being.

• Demonstrated ability to manage multiple priorities concurrently and effectively.

• Proven ability to work independently and cooperatively in a team environment through sharing of knowledge and experience to maximise performance and achieve positive outcomes.

• Demonstrated ability to lead projects in a collaborative manner and to      exercise independent judgement.

• Proven ability to effectively write and manage grant applications with proven results.

• Demonstrated proven skills and experience in conflict resolution. 

• Excellent computer literacy including experience with the Microsoft Office Suite, social media platforms and web-based systems.

• Report writing and data collection skills/experience

• High level of initiative, planning and organisational skills. 

• Current driver’s licence and access to a reliable, comprehensively insured vehicle.

• Willingness to participate in the Canopy’s facility management ‘after hours on call roster’.

• Proven management experience including project management, staff supervision and risk management.

• Experience using Customer Relation Management (CRM) Database or similar programs.

• Demonstrated knowledge of the communities within the western growth corridor of the Newcastle and Lake Macquarie Local Government Areas.

Salary and employment conditions are in accordance with the Social, Community, Home Care and Disability Services Industry Award 2010.
